Body Sugaring at Essence

Sugaring hair removalThe history of Sugar: sugaring is one of the oldest forms of hair removal. Considered an art, the earliest references came from the ancient civilizations of Mesopotamia, Egypt, and Greece.

Egyptian hieroglyphics describe how slave girls serving the Pharaoh were expected to remove their body hair. The hair on the body was considered, by the upper class, to be unclean. During the reign of the Turkish Empire, the removal of body hair was considered an art (info adapted from the Alexandria Professional Sugaring Reference Guide.)

Today, Essence offers this ancient art in a new form, keeping clients happy, healthy and hair free!

Alexandria Professional Body Sugaring™ is a much gentler, safer, and truly progressive method of hair removal for all parts of the body. It is effective on all skin types and hair textures for both men and women.

Advantages of Sugaring

Pure and natural ingredients Sugaring paste is made from 100% natural ingredients with no chemical additives, no testing on animals and no harmful side effects caused by allergic reactions. It is so natural you can EAT it.

Not as Hot as Wax

Sugar is warm to the touch and will not cause swelling or issues with underlying connective tissues over long term use.

Easier to clean up

Sugar can be easily cleaned up with water, as it has no resins.

Doesn’t stick to skin

Sugar cannot adhere to live skin cells. Live cells are wet, and because sugar is water soluble, it will not adhere to live skin cells. It will extract the hair, without causing skin damage or irritation.

Extract shorter hairs

Sugaring requires less than 1/16 of an inch or 4 to 7 days growth, after shaving.

Less Breakage

The sugar paste wraps around the hair shaft making it pliable while seeping below the mouth of the follicle and lubricating the hair to make the extraction more complete and gentle. The hair is “eased” out of the follicle only in the natural direction of growth, which helps to extract the hair intact. Because of the direction of extraction, the client feels little, if any discomfort.

Leads to Permanency

After a number of treatments, the hair follicle begins to deplete. The hair growth is more refined each time. Because sugar can extract the shortest hair, it is possible to extract hair in its earliest growth phase, which can lead to permanency.

Before Sugar Treatment

Please do not use a razor or depilatory creams between appointments, as this will interfere with your goal to refine and diminish your hair growth and to have smooth healthy skin. Regularly hydrating and exfoliating your skin between sugaring treatments is just as important as receiving treatment. You will receive the best results if your skin is healthy.

Precautions

Sugaring is not recommended if you are undergoing Retin-A or Accutane treatment, using vitamin C topical products or have recently undergone a heavy peel (1 to 5-day peel). If you are undergoing a microdermabrasion treatment, clients must wait 3 days or 72 hours before being sugared. Clients should not exfoliate 24 hours before or after being sugared.

Sugaring is not recommended during your menstrual cycle, as you may be more sensitive.

After Sugar Treatment Irritants

Do not use perfumed soap or products with chemical irritants on sugared areas within 24 hours of your treatment. Do not apply deodorant to under arms for 12 hours after sugaring treatment. We recommend that you avoid make-up for 12 hours following a facial sugaring treatment.

We recommend that you wait 24 hours before exposing your skin to the sun, infra-red lamps or solarium. You should not receive a sugaring treatment on an area where your skin is sunburned.

Redness & Itchy Skin

Due to excessive blood flow to the treated areas, some client’s skin will look pink and feel hot and/or itchy immediately after treatment. You may also notice tiny red spots for a few hours. Others may take a longer time to react, or not react at all. These reactions are normal as long as the redness disappears within three hours.

Avoid direct heat such as hot baths, sun-beds, and sunbathing after the treatment. Skin must not be rubbed or scratched after treatment. Clients should avoid wearing tight-fitting garments immediately following treatment. Clients should not exercise immediately following treatment.

Eyebrow and Lash Tinting

What is Eyebrow and Eyelash tinting?

Eyebrow and Lash Tinting is a smart solution to accentuate your beautiful eyes, create more contrast in your skin tone and hair color, or to just create a more dramatic effect. Eyebrow and Lash Tinting is simply coloring the lashes and brows to match a new hair color or to darken light hair that blends in with your skin tone. Suddenly your eyes will appear more vibrant and your features will have more contrast.

Process

Brow and Lash Tinting is just like having your hair dyed. Dye is carefully applied to the brow and lashes. Brow and Lash Tinting makes the brows and lashes appear fuller and thicker and draw more attention to the eye area. Brow and Lash Tinting can be matched to the dye on the head hair if applicable. Brow and Lash Tinting is just like getting your hair dyed. Your appointment will last about 15 or 20 minutes.

Precautions

People with allergies to hair dye or sensitivities to color additive or those with active eye infections should not get their brows or lashes tinted. Both the FDA and the cosmetology industry agree that permanent aniline-derived dying is not safe. Instead, harmless coloring ingredients are used to tint the brows and lashes.

Results

Your results will depend on your desired effect. Brows and lashes can closely match your dyed or natural hair color, for a more consistent appearance. Brows and lashes can be emphasized or blend in with your face for a very pleasing appearance. If you have light skin with light hair and opt for a dye to accentuate your brows and lashes, you will notice a more striking appearance that brings out your eye area and often balances out the rest of the face. Brows and lashes will also appear thicker and fuller. Brow and Lash Tinting typically lasts about 4 weeks. You can maintain your tint with touch up appointments. If you are planning on having your eyebrows shaped, we recommend having the brows tinted beforehand.
